Ken Saragosa lived on the streets in downtown San Diego for four years. Work he wrote won the 2022 PEN America Prison Writing Award in both Fiction and Nonfiction Essay. He is currently finishing an experimental novel based on the stories he wrote for the PEN competition. He was recently named a 2023 LAMBDA Literary Foundation Emerging Voices Fellow. He is developing a career in professional theater, and has worked as dramaturg, in production, and as an actor. He has personally experienced the transformative power storytelling and creating art, and believes others who’ve experienced struggles similar to his can do the same.
Jason experienced homelessness as a child with his family and as an adult alone. Jason has gone on to graduate from San Diego State University with an interdisciplinary degree in Film, Journalism, and Art. He has created a documentary called Rebound that has aired on PBS. Jason is currently working on projects to educate and advocate for the unhoused.
